You learn that all of the Gorillaz collaborators, including Snoop, Paul and Mick and De La Soul (who ran over some Super Fast Jelly Fish!), are all traveling to Plastic Beach in their own subs. Suddenly, Cybrog wakes up, an octopus gushes from her mouth and she glares at 2D. Meanwhile, Murdoc, 2D and Cyborg are underwater in their shark submarine on their way back to Plastic Beach after the Stylo video (Cyborg has the bullethole in her head and is laying the sub).
Basically, it opens up with Masked Noodle shooting and fighting off the helicopters from El Manana, and finally her passing out in a life raft in the middle of the sea. With the more love songs of the album, Damon really put his heart into singing it. Crowd loved singing along to the Overloads and Bobby blew us all away with his vocals and really brought it home, it was really something.īEAUTIFUL LIVE. He was such a gem the whole show, really loved the crowd. Visual: Various pictures of Gorillaz and the landfillīOBBY WOMACK, OH YEAH. Visual: Two men (zombies?) wandering the desert, in the end, they get burned by the heat of the sun.Ĭrowd started getting into this one, but you could tell there were some Plastic Beach noobies in there, hesitant to sing along. Really kicked it off with a throw back to Demon Days, Damon's vocals are powerful and the backup singers sound lovely. GUYS, if you were wondering what was the deal with those pics Snoop twitted last month, here's your answer! He can't perform with the band, so he recorded his performance for the show, decked in a captain's outfit. Visual: Overview video of the Plastic Beach model You really felt like you were being transported to Plastic Beach with this one, if you think it sounded beautiful on the album, wait 'til you hear them play at Coachella. ) Band is FRONT AND CENTER!īEAUTIFUL opening, the orchestra was so perfect and the strings sounded so lovely and amazing. Because of the intimate setting and the visuals, they had us all actually sit down for the show, which was interesting, but you really felt the music. Stage was set up with the band and orchestra in the front, big lighted letter spelling GORILLAZ behind them and a very large screen in the back for the visuals. Waved at Jamie and he waved back!! Got in the front and there was NO rails, NO stage just tape on the floor and the band 3 feet in front of us. Saw Jamie and The clash members waiting never the check in.
Waited in line for another half an hour before they let us in the sound studio. Around 7, they let us in to get our passes and wristbands. Line was short at this point and just chatted away. Got to Center Staging around 6Pm and met up with some awesome people in line (talking to you, G-U and G-Club!). Set List is a bit out of order! Sorry 'bout that, tried to keep track but was too into it. Writing this up straight from after the show, so forgive my typos and immense rambling n shit!
